What are Gallstones / Gall Bladder Stones?

Cholelithiasis is referred to gallstone disease in medical terms. Gallstones are concretions that form in the biliary tract, usually in the gallbladder.

Minute pieces having a solid texture (stones) form in the gallbladder. Gallstones can range in size which is too small to as large as a golf ball. The stones develop because of cholesterol and pigments in bile and also from hard particles.

Mainly two types of gallstones are being observed:

Cholesterol stones: They occur in yellow and green colors, 80% of the stones that occur are cholesterol stones.
Pigment stones:  stones are made up of bilirubin which are smaller and darker in appearance

Stones are formed in a small organ located under the liver which is named as gallbladder. The gallbladder helps aiding in digesting fatty foods This small organ aids to the digestive process its work is to store bile and secreting it into the intestine (small) when food substance enters.  Bile is produced by the liver it is in fluid state and is made up of substances like salts, cholesterol and bilirubin, and bile salts.

Gall Bladder stones in the gallbladder may cause fibrosis and loss of function of the gallbladder which is known as chronic cholecystitis and this may lead to cancer. Few cases of severity in gallstones would lead to surgeries. The surgeries include Cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) and Laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The occurrence of gallstones differs from men to women. Usually there is 20%risk of gallstones being observed in men with age group below 50 and maximum observed with age group of 50 to 75. But in the case of women the risk is 25% for women aged 60 and 50% for women aging 75. Gallstones are also observed in pregnancy time for women undergoing hormone replacement therapy.

Apple: Take 2 apples and make a fine juice out of it and a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar mix well and have it once every day.
Lentils: finely chop lentils and consume them regularly along with your meal
